Make hay while the sun shines

Hay and silage are Australia’s essential sources for animal fodder, and create about 10-12 million tonnes of combined production each year. The feed that these methods produce is essential to promoting healthy growth and weight gain in livestock (such as cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, and chooks), and for filling the seasonal gaps where feed supply is low. There are many jobs available in the industry, involved in the initial growing stage, through mowing, spreading, raking and harvesting. Like most modern Australian agriculture businesses, hay and silaging benefits greatly from a variety of machine operators to improve the speed and efficiency of these stages—balers, tractors, mowers, and forage harvesters just to name a few. Finally, the ability to travel between and/or work for more than one farm will greatly improve your chances of adapting to work in the industry.
