Cotton Farming & Ginning

cotton on to the farming and ginning industry

More than 12,000 jobs are created by Australia’s cotton industry, creating work for Trash-truck and Moonbuggy Drivers, Feeder Bay Operators, Assistant Ginners, among many other workers. Cotton-picking tends to take place in the early Autumn months, which also enables ginners to produce bales as the cotton begins to arrive at their gins. Shifts in this industry are usually standardised (such as six days on, two days off), and can run quite long. At the extreme higher end, it’s not unheard of for cotton ginning shifts to run for eight consecutive days of 12 hour shifts.

In this industry, you need to work hard—with forklifts, cotton pickers, or front-end loaders—and be available to work for the whole season. It’s also going to be difficult for you to work in this industry if you’ve got asthma or dust allergies, as the work can trigger these conditions. In return, the remuneration available in cotton farming and ginning jobs is extremely good, and will leave you free for the other 3-to-6 months of the year, depending on a given season’s harvest and production capacity. When you’re ready, AG Workforce can connect you with a job in Australia’s best cotton farming and ginning businesses.
